Sculpture Department

The Department of Sculpture is one of the oldest departments of the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. The study of sculpture, which the Department conducts, was launched back in 1907. Starting from a long tradition of sculpture education, the Department is continuously developing in accordance with contemporary artistic practices, new technologies, materials and ways of thinking.

The Department encourages individual authorial approach, research, experimentation and the development of independent artistic expression. The teaching combines traditional sculptural procedures, such as modeling and working in clay, plaster, wood, stone, metal and bronze, with contemporary media, digital 3D modeling, 3D printing, CNC and laser technologies, photography, video, sound, installation and work in public space.

The Department implements two study programs: the undergraduate study of Sculpture and the graduate study of Sculpture.

Students have at their disposal classes for work, specialized workshops for various materials and techniques (stone, metal, wood, ceramics and foundry techniques), a 3D workshop for digital design, spaces for computer and audiovisual work, and technical support for the execution of works. In addition to regular classes, the Department conducts workshops, field and project classes and collaborates with artists, galleries, institutions, foundries and other production spaces.
