Krešimir Rod

He was born in 1970 in Veliki Bukovac (Mače). He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, majoring in sculpture, in the class of Prof. Stipe Sikirica. He is the winner of the Rector's Award of the University of Zagreb, the Zagreb Bank Award for the best graduate at the Department of Sculpture, and the 3. Zagorje Art Salon for Sculpture in 2003. Since 1996, he has been working at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb at the Department of Sculpture as a senior associate. He is the author of more than 16 publicly installed sculptures (Zagreb, Vrsar, Šibenik, Varaždin, Požega, Krapina, Jakovlje, Bedekovčina, Gornja Stubica, Gorski Kotar, Pleternica, Županja and Čepin), the art designs of the "The Best European Football Player" award, which was awarded to the best European football player by the weekly Sportske novosti for several years, and the "Golden Key-Best Croatian Exporters" award. His four works are in the art collection "Mother" of the Franciscan monastery Humac in Ljubuski. He is the author of several portraits in stone for private collections, he is the author of the baptistery, pulpit and altar in the parish church in Zlatar. So far, he has organized five solo exhibitions. He participated in the 8th and 9. Triennial of Croatian Sculpture in Zagreb and the exhibition Croatian Sculpture in Stone 1991 – 2011 in Zagreb. He participated in the Montraker Sculpture School in 1992, at the sculpture colony in Jakovlje in 2002, at the Gorski Kotar Sculpture Workshop Lokve in 2014. For many years he has been working on restoration works and reconstructions of wooden statues in the Forma prima sculpture park in Krapina. Since 1999 he has been a member of the Croatian Association of Fine Artists. He lives in Zlatar.

The field of interest is the study of the tension of volume that comes from within. Volume, with its apparent movement and even breathing, moves away from itself the idea of stone weight and immobility. An exploration of anthropomorphism, zoomorphism and allusions to vegetative vitality, rotation within one unique static place.

In the course Expressions in Sculptural Materials, they are taught to work with traditional sculptural tools and, to a lesser extent, machining. They are taught how to make an appropriate sketch and later the realization of a work on an enlarged scale (gallery format). The student goes through all phases of work: from transport, splitting stones with wedges, rough processing using spikes and bumpers. Various gradients, chisels and grinders are used to finish a sculpture in stone. When making a sculpture in wood, all stages are passed, from making a sketch to carving with wood tools.
