How to enroll in a doctoral program

Who can apply?

A person who has completed a university undergraduate, graduate or university integrated study in the field of fine arts can enrol in a doctoral study.

The study can be enrolled by a person with an average grade of 3.5 and higher in all passed exams in the study.

The right to enrol in the doctoral study of Fine Arts is open to all applicants who have completed these studies at the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of Zagreb as well as at all other art academies and faculties in the Republic of Croatia and the world.

Exceptionally, applicants who have completed a university undergraduate, graduate or university integrated study in other artistic fields, humanities or other sciences will be able to enrol in the study with evidence of artistic activity within the field of fine arts. The conditions for enrolment in the study and the procedure are formally and substantively defined by the Regulations of the doctoral study of Fine Arts of the Academy of Fine Arts

Entrance exam

Procedure - The selection of applicants is made by the Jury, composed and selected by the members of the Council of the Doctoral Study of Fine Arts, in accordance with the conditions and criteria of the public competition. The admission criteria include formal and substantive aspects. By reviewing the mandatory documentation for the competition, the Jury judges the quality of the application, sufficient artistic talent of the candidate, and the relevance, innovativeness and topicality of the topic and proposal of artistic research. Also, the representation of candidates of all professional orientations and competencies, the teaching interest of the Academy of Fine Arts, and the possibilities of mentoring the candidate on the basis of the artistic research proposal are taken into account.

Selection of applicants - On the basis of the received documentation, the Evaluation Committee evaluates the applicants' proposals and decides on the passing or non-passing of the candidate, and the selection of applicants is made according to the criteria of the Evaluation Committee on the basis of:

1. Oral presentations / interviews with the candidate
2. Evaluations of mandatory tender documentation

The Jury may select only those candidates who have met all the conditions according to the criterion of the competition. On the basis of the proposed topic and the proposal for artistic research, the Jury proposes a potential mentor or advisor, guided by the criterion of competence for a particular field or topic. The Jury forwards the proposal to the Doctoral Study Council with a list of candidates who have met the criteria for enrolment in the doctoral study. The Doctoral Study Council considers and, after discussion, adopts the proposal, and forwards it to the Academy Council, which confirms it.
