All deadlines, documents, technical information about enrollment and the entrance exam are published on the enrollment page. The classification procedure for the Animated Film study takes place in two parts, for which it is good to prepare in advance. Despite the information on this website, it is necessary to study the Information Package for Students, which also contains a description of the admission procedure.

What kind of students do we need?

At the graduate university study, we are looking for students who show authorial curiosity, artistic sensitivity and willingness to explore their own expression. Readiness for continuous work, experimentation and acquisition of new knowledge is important. We are especially interested in candidates who show originality, freshness of ideas and the ability to look at familiar motifs from an unexpected angle through their works.

Who can apply?

  • The right to apply for the competition for enrolment in the graduate study programme and the right to access the classification procedure are granted to applicants who have completed or who have a maximum of 30 ECTS credits left until the completion of the undergraduate study.
  • The right to apply for the competition for the graduate study of Animated Film and the right to access the classification procedure are granted to applicants who have passed all the prescribed exams in the university undergraduate study in accordance with the regulations that were in force before the entry into force of the Act on Scientific Activity and Higher Education (Official Gazette No. 123/03), and they only have a graduate exam left and are obliged to submit a certificate of the above.

Who can enroll?

  • Applicants who have completed undergraduate studies (any) have the right to enrol in the first year of graduate university studies.
  • Applicants who have completed university undergraduate studies in accordance with the regulations in force before the entry into force of the Act on Scientific Activity and Higher Education (Official Gazette No. 123/03) also have the right to enrol in the first year of graduate university studies.

Applicants for the university graduate study of Animated Film are required to enclose:

  • a folder of works (animated films, illustrations, storyboards and other media and text works if any, etc.) presentation of media works on a USB stick
  • In the motivation letter, state: explain the reasons for interest, key practical or theoretical foundations in your own work so far and a projection of your own work at the graduate study

The placement exam consists of two parts:

  • The first part consists of an overview of the map/works, it is eliminatory and does not score.

After the publication of the list of applicants who have passed the first part, they take the second part of the exam,

  • The second part of the exam consists of a presentation of the folder/papers and an interview and is scored.

How to prepare?

It is certainly advisable to visit our most famous animated film festival, the World Festival of Animated Film Animafest Zagreb, which is held every year in the first half of June. Check out the exact dates on their website.

Visit various exhibitions, film festivals or similar events that are available to you. We expect candidates to be interested in the domestic and foreign art scene, especially the animated film scene. Websites such as Zippy Frames provide a good insight into recent authorial animation, so we recommend that you watch some of the available films and interviews with authors.

What to do after studying?

Graduates of the Department of Animated Film actively participate in the professional and artistic animation scene, both in Croatia and internationally. Many have achieved significant results as authors of auteur and commercial animated films, collaborators in video game production, illustration, visual effects and new media. Their achievements reflect a high level of technical skill, authorial expression and readiness for innovative and interdisciplinary projects. Alumni are regularly present at domestic and international animation festivals, and many contribute to the education of new generations of animators and visual artists.
