Project-based teaching

In addition to regular classes, we conduct project-based classes that include external associates and often move classes from the premises of the Academy of Fine Arts. In this way, students get to know the professional working conditions, collaborate with different actors of the contemporary cultural and artistic scene and are exposed to different contexts to which they react and in which they work.

We conduct workshops, bring various domestic and foreign authors to hold guest lectures, exchanges, visits to festivals, collaborations with other institutions, etc.

Animafest

Cooperation with the World Festival of Animated Film Animafest Zagreb. The second oldest animation festival in the world, founded on the success of the Zagreb School of Animated Film, qualifies for the Academy Awards of the American Film Academy, the Annie Awards, the BAFTA Award and the Emile Animation Awards. MA1 students create a festival trailer for the festival's student international competition, they also participate in the AFN EDU program and in the presentation of the Academy, and through numerous programs, masterclasses and a large number of foreign and domestic guests - professionals and students - they have the opportunity to get acquainted with the world scene and make their first professional contacts.

International Animated Film Workshop

INTERNATIONAL ANIMATED FILM WORKSHOP - takes place in Komiža and is organized in cooperation with Zagreb Film. The program has been held for more than 15 years, and every year it features various world experts as lecturers and mentors: Tim Allen (puppet animator, Wes Anderson, Aardman), Phil Parker (dramaturgy, Aardman, CEE), Ed Hooks (Acting for animators), Martina Scarpelli and Lana Tankosa (The Animation Workshop) and others.

AFN EDU Program

The Department of Animated Film of the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb is one of a dozen higher education institutions, mainly from the CEE region but also from the rest of Europe, which intensively cooperates with the AFN (www.animationfestivalnetwork.eu) festival network and participates in their educational programs co-financed by the Creative Europe MEDIA Program. AFN EDU programs are held at Animateka in Ljubljana, Anifilm in Liberec in the Czech Republic and Fest Anča in Žilina, Slovakia, Anicity in Bucharest and the already mentioned World Festival of Animated Film Animafest Zagreb. At each festival, through a series of lectures and workshops, they provide opportunities for networking and meeting future colleagues and collaborations. In addition to the Academy of Fine Arts, some of the participating schools are FAMU Prague (CZ), VŠMU Bratislava (SK), School of Arts Nova Gorica (SI), National University of Theater and Film – UNATC "I.L.Caragiale" in Bucharest (RO).

ANIMACYCLE

ANIMACYCLE is performed through the Erasmus and Ceepus networks, students participate in the international animation marathon Animacykl in Banja Luka as well as three-part workshops as part of the Stoptrik festival in Maribor.

Animateka, Ljubljana

STUDY TRIP to the international festival Animateka, Ljubljana. According to the possibilities, we take MA1 students on a study trip to the Animateka festival in Ljubljana, where they have the opportunity to follow all the programs of this important European festival, establish their international contacts and, in case their films are selected for the program, present them to the international scene. Like Animafest Zagreb, this one is extremely important for their first professional steps.

WIP work in progress i Reality check

WIP work in progress and Reality check - projects of the department within which domestic and foreign experts are invited to guest workshops and lectures with the aim of providing additional knowledge from a wide range of professional life, such as, for example, puppet animation workshops (Ivana Bošnjak, Bruno Razum) and dramaturgy workshops (Jasna Žmak from the Academy of Dramatic Arts, Ivan Bogdanov from the University of Sofia). Professional lectures were held by successful domestic  authors, producers and other professionals, and the aim of this series of lectures is to introduce students to real experiences and circumstances of future professional life.
