History of Publishing at the Academy of Fine Arts

The Publishing and Exhibition Service of the Academy of Fine Arts was founded in 1996 at the suggestion of Prof. Josip Biffel. Even before that, there was a publishing activity of the Academy, but it was not systematic (a trace of this are publications such as the anniversary Memorials of the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb 1907 - 1957 and the collection of the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb 1907 - 1987).

During the many years of its activity, within the publishing activities of this service, a number of books and various other publications were published to present the teaching and artistic activities of the Academy. The focus of the publishing activity during most of this period was on the publication of representative monographs on its professors, as well as a number of other publications – catalogues of exhibitions of professors and students (larger and smaller), yearbooks and publications marking important jubilee events (such as those on the occasion of the 90th and 100th anniversaries).

A capital publishing project was certainly the publication of the Monograph of the Academy of Fine Arts, which was planned to mark the 90th anniversary of the Academy, but due to its extreme complexity, this project was realized five years after that jubilee and the book was published in 2002. Publishing and the activities of this segment of the service were planned and realized by the management of the Academy in cooperation with the Council (formerly the Commission) for Publishing of the Academy of Fine Arts, whose members are professors who have experience in publishing.
