Chair of Theoretical Subjects

Theoretical teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb has taken place since its inception, and today's Chair of Theoretical Subjects at the Academy of Fine Arts represents a key link between practical artistic work and theory, encouraging students to contextualize their own creativity through art history and theory, visual studies and philosophy. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the Department develops analytical skills and critical thinking necessary for the formation of visual artists, conservators and art educators.

In addition to theoretical teaching that is integrated into all study programs of the Academy of Fine Arts, members of the Department also conduct scientific, artistic and transdisciplinary research, covering areas ranging from art in public space, contemporary curatorial and artistic research practices, to innovative art pedagogies and new approaches to the conservation and restoration of works of art.
