prof. dr. sc. Tomislav Pletenac

He was born in Varaždin in 1967. After graduating from high school, he studied computer science at the Faculty of Engineering in Maribor. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in Maribor, he enrolled in the study of ethnology and museology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Zagreb. At the same faculty, he will receive his doctorate with the topic "Ethnology as a product of transculturation". Until 2022, he worked at the Department of Ethnology and Anthropology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, after which he moved to the Academy of Fine Arts. His area of interest is postcolonial theory, theoretical psychoanalysis and cultural trauma. He has published two scientific books in collaboration with Boris Perić, Fantastic Creatures of Istria and Kvarner and The Land Behind the Forest, and the independent How Zagreb Emerges from Sleep – the Creation of a Post-Socialist City. In addition to scientific books, also with Boris Perić, he has also published literary essays: "You Can't Do It", "Handbook for Extremists", "Forced to Think" and "Croatian Political Bestiary".

In the study program, I am in charge of the field of cultural criticism in the visual arts. This includes visual studies, cultural theories in the widest range of applications, from the so-called high art to everyday visual practices.
