Biography

Born on December 29, 1971 in Zagreb, he is a Croatian citizen. He attended elementary and high school partly in Zagreb, and partially, for 3 years, in Albany, New York and Lowell, Massachusetts, USA. He graduated in 1990 from the Center for Cultural Education, in Zagreb, with his graduation thesis: "Physical Methods in the Research of Works of Art". With the intention of devoting himself to the conservation and restoration of works of art as a scientist, in 1991 he enrolled in the study of physics at the University of Vienna. In 2001, he obtained a master's degree with a master's thesis: "Characterization of traditional painting pigments by spectroscopic methods". In 2001, he was employed as a doctoral assistant at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, at the Institute for Art and Technology in Art. In addition to teaching duties as an assistant, he participated in restoration and conservation projects for the restoration of a number of art masterpieces from the Kunsthistorisches Museum and the Albertina in Vienna. At the same time, at the doctoral study of the University of Vienna from 2001 to 2005, he studied the application of technology and scientific knowledge in conservation-restoration. He received his PhD with the thesis: "Development, construction and application of a portable device for fluorescence analysis of works of art". At the beginning of 2006, at the National Center for Scientific Research in Athens, Greece, he specialized in the application of nuclear analytical methods in the research of artistic and cultural heritage. At the same time, he received a one-year postdoctoral fellowship from the National Science Foundation of the Republic of Croatia and was employed at the Ruđer Bošković Institute, where he worked on the development of instruments for the analysis of works of art during conservation and restoration procedures. Over the years, she has been continuously improving herself by participating in a number of international specialized workshops and summer schools on the topic of the application of technological and scientific methods in cultural heritage research. At the beginning of 2007, he was employed as an assistant professor at the Academy of Fine Arts, at the Department of Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art (OKIRU), in the segment of subjects in fine art technology and natural sciences. In 2012, he was promoted to the arts-teaching title of associate professor, in 2019 to the title of full professor, and from 2025 he received a permanent title. He is the author of numerous professional and scientific articles in the field of artistic research and participates as a leader and associate in a number of scientific and technological projects in the mentioned field. He is a member of the Croatian Conservation Society.
