prof. art. Neven Bilić

He was born in 1972 in Zagreb. He graduated in 1995 from the Academy of Fine Arts, at the Department of Sculpture, in the class of Prof. Stanko Jančić. Since 1995, he has been a member of the Croatian Association of Artists and the art association Atelieri Žitnjak. He is a professor at the Department of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts. He has been appearing on the art scene since 1995, with his first solo exhibition in the Lotršćak Tower. Since then, he has been actively present through a number of group exhibitions in the country and abroad, such as the Triennial of Croatian Sculpture in 1994 and 2022, "MATERIKA" by Mostra Internazionale di Scultura, Gorizia, 2008, the international sculpture exhibition "STATUE AND OBJECT", Bratislava, 2009, as well as through a series of solo exhibitions. He also participated in 13 sculpture workshops and symposia in the country and abroad. He has also won about 15 professional awards, including: 2015 – Grand Prix at the 12. Triennial of Croatian Sculpture 2015 – 3rd prize for the monument to John Paul II, Dubrovnik 2012 – award for the Stations of the Cross, Srđ, Dubrovnik 2011 – 2nd prize for the monument to Miljenko Smoja, Split 2009 – 1st prize for the monument to Fabjan Kaliterna, Split 2009 – 2nd prize for the Victory Monument, Zadar

In his work, he deals with sculpture, object and ambient installations. Elements of the architectural, molecular and organic are manifested in his works, and ornamental in the patterns branching in the weft rests a structure taken from the field of modern digital, computer technologies, and their repetition in potentially infinite sequences. Characteristic are spatial Structural schemes of raster character. The works are a confluence of different stylistic typologies, which results in the overlapping and exchange of semantic codes. The undisguised process of creation is dominant, as well as the geometric precision of individual structures, while the intersection of these two features contributes to the expansion of the decorative function ornament as such.

The subject Sculpture 2 consists of 2 teaching units: 1st semester: modeling of small and large figures according to a live model, with the aim of mastering the technique, construction skills, proportions and visual integrity of the work. 2nd semester: free work with the basic motif of a figure or body, with the aim of articulating personal artistic expression, defining one's own theme in accordance with the proposed written text.
