He was born on May 13, 1953 in Zagreb, where he graduated from the School of Applied Arts at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in 1981 with a degree in art history and comparative literature. He obtained the title of Master of Social Sciences and Humanities in the field of historical sciences in 1992 by defending his thesis entitled "Oleography in Croatia 1864-1914." As a DAAD scholar, he spent 10 months in 1984/85 in Munich (Ludwig Maximilian Universität and Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte). As a postgraduate trainee (since 1983), expert associate (since 1984) and assistant (from 1988 to 1999), he was employed at the Department of Art History at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, where he taught 19th Century Art. As an external associate at the School of Design of the Faculty of Architecture, he taught Art History II (from the Renaissance to the 20th century), later Art Today, and at the Academy of Fine Arts, at the Departments of Fine Arts Culture and Art Conservation and Restoration of Fine Arts, the subjects Theory of Fine Arts and Art of the 19th Century. As a lecturer and senior lecturer, he taught at the aforementioned departments of the Academy of Fine Arts from 2005 until his retirement in 2018, the subjects Art of the 19th Century, Art of the 20th Century. and Theory of Fine Arts, and then as an external associate the courses Introduction to Fine Arts and Contemporary and Recent Art. Since 1987, he has occasionally collaborated as a researcher on projects of the Institute of Art History in Zagreb: in 1989/90 he collected documentation and material for the topic of Art Nouveau Architecture in Croatia and participated in the work of the Yugoslav Commission for the UNESCO project of a joint European study of art nouveau / Jugendstil architecture. From 1994 to 2010 he continuously coordinated, collected contributions and wrote articles (about 200 units) for the German encyclopaedic edition "Allgemeines Kuenstlerlexikon", Munich-Leipzig: K.G. Saur Verlag. He is a member of the Society of Art Historians of Croatia.

His research interest is generally focused on all fine arts, literature and film and their theoretical, technical and media assumptions, and in particular, for the purpose of thorough preparation for lectures, on art theory and art of the 19th and 20th centuries, which he tries to look at from broader historical and cultural aspects.
