doc. art. David Maljković

He was born in Rijeka in 1973. He lives and works in Zagreb. He studied fine arts at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Rijeka, graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, majoring in painting, and optionally attended the Multimedia department. He graduated from the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. He is the winner of a scholarship for gifted students of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Rector's Award, the 36. Zagreb Salon Award, the Filip Trade Award. He is also the winner of the HDLU Award for the best exhibition. He is the winner of the following international awards: ARCO Prize for young artists, Madrid; International Contemporary Art Prize Diputacio de Castello; Mario Merz Prize, 3rd edition, Fondazione Merz, Turin (nomination). He has participated in numerous residency programs: DAAD, Berlin; Augarten Contemporary, artist in residence, Vienna; IASPIS, Stockholm; International Residence at Recollets, Paris; Kunstzeitraum, artist residency, Munich; KW Institute for Contemporary Art, studio program, Berlin; Cite Internationales des Arts, Paris. The key themes and methods of Maljković's work – individual and collective attitude towards the complexity of time, collage approach, self-referentiality, references to the works of other artists, playing with the nature of the gaze, carefully choreographing the experience of the exhibition. Often using previous works as a "raw material" to create new ones, "recycling" both content and form, he refuses to stabilize them into a single and final form. This twofold, open relationship to the finished work, and the way in which the work will be presented, represent the key area of interest of his practice. Exhibitions are dynamic and associative diagrams. Although indisputably singular phenomena, the works are usually perceived as a kind of exhibition positions that initiate various communicative combinatorics and fluid readings. It could be said that these are different positions of pictoriality that represents a certain idea of the image and its action and meaning in a broader context, that is, that the materiality of the pictorial code itself is not located exclusively in the image, it meanders within the practice itself, different media and a wide field of reference.

Field: Fine Arts / Field: Painting The study is focused on the development of individual artistic expression through a mentoring approach, encouraging critical and analytical thinking and research in the field of contemporary art.
