Petra Vuković: Consolidation

From the preface to the exhibition:

 

"Personal experience is often difficult to perceive outside of one's own memories and the feelings that accompany it. Through artistic creation, it gains the possibility of new expression, moving from direct experience to the space of symbols, associations and visual narration. The exhibition "Consolidation" starts from such an attitude towards personal experience, exploring the possibilities of its understanding and processing through art. By connecting introspective narration, fiction and various visual media, the author forms a whole in which memories, inner states and symbolic representations of personal experiences are intertwined. At the center of the exhibition is a fictional autobiography, through which a personal story is transmitted through fictional characters and symbolic situations. Instead of literally depicting events, the experience is translated into a fictional world that allows its indirect expression. Fiction does not distance the story from its personal starting point, but provides a space in which it is shaped through metaphor and allegory. In this way, inner experiences are expressed through symbolic scenes and relationships, leaving space between personal experience and its artistic representation. Different media intertwine in a common narrative whole, expanding and complementing its meanings. Movement, image and materiality become ways of expressing what can hardly be conveyed through direct narration, while through their mutual relations a layered visual language is formed. Fragments, symbols and isolated scenes expand the narrative, providing insight into its different aspects, but at the same time not revealing all its layers. Fragmentation is thus not just a formal process, but reflects the way in which experiences and memories are stored, returned and gradually connected into a whole. The title "Consolidation" refers to the process of connecting different parts into a whole. In the context of the exhibition, this process can be understood as an effort to perceive, process and integrate personal experiences through artistic creation. It is not about erasing the past or finally resolving it, but about the possibility of establishing a different relationship with one's own memories and feelings. Through fictional narration and its translation into visual language, the experience acquires a symbolic form that allows for a certain distance, but does not diminish its emotional importance."

From the curriculum vitae

 

Petra Vuković was born in 1998 in Zagreb. In 2017, she graduated as a textile designer at the School of Applied Arts and Design in Zagreb. In 2025, she graduated in graphics from the Department of Teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Zagreb, in the class of Assoc. prof. dr. art. Igor Čabraja, obtaining the title of university master of fine arts education. During her studies, she participated in several group exhibitions, including "ALU Perspektiva / The Best Of" in 2023 in Zagreb and "70 years of Rab songs" in 2024 in Slavonski Brod. After graduation, she participated in the FAF (Amateur Film Festival) film festivals in Zagreb and MRAK (Amateur Short Review Event) in Osijek. In 2025, she also participated in the exhibition "Once Upon a Time... Croatian Toy Factories in the 20th Century" in Zagreb and at the 3rd Scientific and Professional Conference with International Participation "Creative Plus – A Holistic Approach to Mental Health through Creative Methods" in Zagreb, as an active participant and presenter.
