Zvjezdana Jembrih was born in 1965 in Zagreb. She graduated in 1990 from the Academy of Fine Arts. She has exhibited at about thirty solo and numerous group exhibitions, and performed thirty-five land art works. Since 1993, she has been working as a conservator-restorer, attending professional training in Munich and at postgraduate studies in Budapest, where she received her master's degree in the restoration of wooden sculpture in 2000. Since 1998, she has been working at the Academy of Fine Arts, at the Department of Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art. Since 2020, she has been a full professor, and from 2015 to 2019, the head of the Department of Art Restoration. She is the head of many programs for the protection of movable cultural property and the author of publications in the field of protection of tangible and intangible cultural heritage. She is the organizer, author and editor-in-chief of the catalogue of the conservation and restoration exhibition "Non/Healed Saints" (Zagreb 2016, Bjelovar 2016). She is the editor-in-chief of the monograph Chapel of St. Michael in Samobor - from survival to revival. (2018). She is the initiator, project manager, organizer and editor-in-chief of the catalogue of the exhibition SOS for Saints – conservation and restoration works on the remaining wooden inventory of the Chapel of St. Jacob in Očura. She is the organizer and participant of the scientific and professional conference in October 2022 in the Chapel of St. Jacob on Očura and in the Radboa Museum in Radoboj. Under her leadership, the SOS for Saints project was awarded the Annual Award of the Croatian Society of Art Historians for the protection of cultural heritage in 2022. She writes and publishes poetry and prose. She is the winner of the 1st prize for painting Ex tempore Opatija in 1994, the Franjo Horvat Kiš literary awards for Croatian literary travelogue in 2008, 2016 and 2017, the 3rd prize for short story at the European Short Story Festival in 2017, and the first prize at the international short story competition Lapis Histriae in 2024. In collaboration with the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research in Zagreb, she has been participating in ethnographic research in various areas of Croatia since 2012. She is an external project associate in the international project of the Croatian Science Foundation "Cultural Animalistics: Interdisciplinary Starting Points and Traditional Practices" (2020 – 2023). She is an external project associate on the project "Traditional Culture in the Digital Environment: Development of the Reference Center for Intangible Culture" (TKuDOR), funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU fund (2024 – 2027).
