izv. prof. art. Vojin Hraste

Vojin Hraste was born on August 10, 1981 in Šibenik. In 2000, he graduated from the First Gymnasium in Split (classical course), and in 2006 he graduated in sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in the class of Prof. Slavomir Drinković. In the academic year 2006/07, during his civil service, works as a teaching associate at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. From 2007 to 2011 he worked as an external associate – assistant at the Department of sculpture at the Academy of Arts in Split. Since 2011 he has been employed at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, where he now works as an associate professor. He has exhibited at numerous solo and group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad and has received multiple awards for his work. Among the most important awards, the award of the Croatian Association of Fine Artists stands out Zagreb for the best young artist 2014, one of the three equivalent awards at the 12. Triennial of Croatian Sculpture for the work of the 49th ccm (2015) and the finals of the Radoslav Putar Award in the same year. He is the author of several sculptures in public space, among which he stands out monument to Bernard Vukas, erected in Split in 2009.

In his work, he explores sculpture as a means of reflecting on social and cultural topics. His sculptures are not static objects, but active factors that provoke a reaction, communicate with the environment and open up space for dialogue. Focused on the symbolism of forms in different contexts, they are designed as initiators of interaction with the observer. Using the symbolic and semiotic potential of sculptural expression, he explores the ways in which the same form can become the carrier of new ideas and interpretations, where permanence and immutability are not inherent in the signified, but in the signifier.

Classes are designed so that students get to know contemporary sculptural movements, techniques and materials, and develop creativity through research and experimentation. The emphasis is on making sketches, working according to one's own affinity and individual expression.
