Vlasta Žanić was born on October 21, 1966 in Zagreb. She graduated in sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts in 1990. She teaches at the undergraduate and graduate studies of sculpture at the Department of Teacher Education of the Academy of Fine Arts. She has been present on the domestic and international art scene for many years. She has won significant awards and recognitions from the profession, and her works can be found in public and private collections of contemporary art. Selected awards: Award at the 8. Triennial of Croatian Sculpture 2003, Annual Award of the Croatian Association of Artists in 2005, Oktavijan Award for Experimental Film at the 14. Days of Croatian Film 2005, Vjesnik Annual Award in 2006, Croatian Section Award at the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space 2015, Grand Prix at the 51. Zagreb Salon, 2016. She is a member of the Artistic Council of the Gallery 'AŽ' in Zagreb, a member of the Croatian Association of Artists in Zagreb and HULU in Split. The most important publications and public media appearances: 'Insert' - a retrospective of Croatian video art, published by the Museum of Contemporary Art, 2006. Pesto, sixth, rožata' documentary radio drama about the artistic work of Vlasta Žanić, HR3, 2008. Finding Yourself with Yourself', a monograph by Vlasta Žanić, Meta Publishing House, 2011. Sketch for a Portrait', a documentary TV show about the artistic work of Vlasta Žanić, directed by Ana Marija Habijan, produced by HRT, 2012. In 2018, she launched the artistic research project 'Extended Media' at the National Assembly, which explores new and expanded fields of activity of art media.

In her artistic practice, she systematically deals with the concept of sculpture, exploring materials, spaces and people, visualizing the relationships and energies between them. The topics she deals with range from self-referential and feminist-oriented to theoretical and conceptual questioning of life, death, society. She often questions the position and relationships between the author, the audience and the exhibits. During the 2000s, she introduced performance, happening, video and experimental film into her work. Regardless of the changes in expressive media and the topics she deals with, sculpture always remains the starting point for her conceptual reflections and authorial realizations.

In the courses she teaches, she questions the basic principles of sculptural terminology through working with space, classical and unconventional sculptural materials, using performative practices and digital media. She encourages an experimental and individual approach in working with students, relying on contemporary approaches and hybrid forms of expression.
