izv. prof. dr. art. Ida Blažičko

She was born in 1985. In Zagreb. After graduating from the Classical Gymnasium in Zagreb in 2003, she enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts. She graduated in 2007 from the Department of Sculpture in the class of Prof. S. Gračan. During her studies, she stayed at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (USA), attending sculpture in the class of Prof. Dr. James Nestor and graphics in the class of Prof. Patricia Villalobos Echeverría. From 2008 to 2009, she studied Chinese Language and Culture at the International Faculty of the Chinese Academy of Arts in Hangzhou. From 2009 to 2012, she attended the postgraduate doctoral study of the Chinese Academy of Arts, Department of Art in Public Space, and received her PhD on the topic "Sustainable Public Art: Recreating the Urban Environment". She also attended the postgraduate doctoral study of the Academy of Fine Arts, Department of Sculpture, under the mentorship of Prof. S. Drinković and Prof. V. Turković, and in 2016 she received her PhD on the topic "Biomimetics in the Service of Art".

Since 2010, she has been a visiting professor at the Chinese Academy of Arts in Hangzhou, Department of Art in Public Space and Art Installation in Landscape.

In public spaces, she has created sculptures made of steel: "The Wind" (Shanghai, 2011), "Wind II" (Xixi Wetland National Park, Hangzhou, 2012), "What Silence – A Cricket Dives into the Cave" (San Vito al Tagliamento, Italy, 2017) and textiles: "Genius loci" (Arena Center Zagreb, 2015), "Cloud" (EGM, Skopje, 2021) and "Leaves" (EGM, Skopje, 2022).

She is the winner of several awards, among which the Award of the Croatian Section of AICA for the sculpture "Free Space" at the XIV Triennial of Croatian Sculpture (Glyptotheque of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, 2022) stand out; award at the International Visual Arts Competition for the installation "A-létheia" in co-authorship with Alex Brajković (2021); Hong Kong Contemporary Design Awards – Outstanding instructor award (2020); 1st prize at the international competition for the conceptual concept and content of the pavilion of Montenegro at the 16th Venice Biennale of Architecture. Venice Biennale of Architecture as a member of a five-member international team of authors (2018); 1st prize Premio in Sesto (2016); 1st prize of the Chinese Academy of Arts for doctoral art thesis and dissertation (2012); 1st prize of the International Faculty of the Chinese Academy of Arts for the sculpture "Hidden Garden" (2012) and Award of the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb for graduate work (2007). She is the president of the Croatian Association of Fine Artists (HDLU) in Zagreb.

The main research interests include what happens in overlapping areas where we can blur boundaries and use biomimetics as an artistic tool and offer solutions to environmental problems. A narrower area of artistic-scientific interest is biomimetic materials and creative processes in sculpture. Artistic and scientific work is focused on biomimetic principles in contemporary sculpture and exploring the connection between nature and art. The focus is on areas of overlap where art, science and technology interact with each other, especially through the use of sustainable materials and processes. The creative approach is characterized by the interaction of traditional and innovative sculptural techniques, with an emphasis on large-scale installations in public space that establish a contemplative dialogue with the environment. Through sculptural interventions, the relationships between full and empty, form and space, lightness and monumentality are examined, and visitors are encouraged to actively participate in the experience of a work of art.

Sculpture courses are focused on the development of modeling skills, from portrait and ornamental sculpture to complex figurative sculpture. Teaching is based on the methodology of observational learning, systematic observation and practical work with a variety of sculptural materials, shaping and finishing techniques, with the aim of integrating formal and psychological knowledge.
