red. prof. art. Danko Friščić

He was born on 30.5.1970 in Zagreb. In 1997 he graduated in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in the class of Prof. Đuro Seder. Since 2006, he has been employed at the Academy of Fine Arts at the Department of Painting, currently as a full professor. From 2018 to 2022, he served as Vice-Dean for International and Inter-University Cooperation. He has exhibited at about 80 solo and over 150 group exhibitions in Croatia (Labin, Zagreb, Rovinj, Pula, Rijeka, Bjelovar, Varaždin, Sisak, Osijek, Split, Šibenik, Jelsa, Dubrovnik...) and abroad (Rome, Florence, Turin, Vienna, Prague, Paris, Bratislava, Budapest, Ljubljana, Amsterdam, Berlin, Krakow, Brussels, Olsztyn, Gdansk, Braunschweig, Skopje, Sarajevo, Ankara, Istanbul, Iowa City, Port-Au-Prince...). His works are in many private and public collections. He is a member of the Croatian Association of Artists. He has won several awards for his work: Praha Graphic '97, Annual Award of the Croatian Association of Artists for the Best Exhibition in the City of Zagreb in 2014. ("Ship of Madmen", with D. Mezak), 1st Purchase Award of the Rovinj City Museum, 7th Prize of the City of Labin Biennial of Painting, Award of the City of Labin (Labin City Gallery). He studied at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts and at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris. He is the author and curator of several original art projects and exhibitions "Embers" (1,2,3,4..), "Slikomon", "Iz-U: Amputation of Identitylessness" and others. As part of his work at the Academy of Fine Arts, he is the coordinator of many student exhibition projects in cooperation with university and other public and private partners (University reviews, cooperation with Croatian art academies, but also foreign institutions such as Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, College of Fine Arts, Seoul, Accademia di belle arti Venezia, and other institutions: Study Center for Social Work of the Faculty of Law in Zagreb, KBC Rebro, Klaić Hospital, Erasmus + project "Empowering Dance 2" - in cooperation with partners from Hamburg and Paris, Bassano della Grappa, Rotterdam, London - KD Vatroslav Lisinski and others).

Through his work, exhibitions and social engagements, Danko Friščić continuously explores and deals with the connection and hybridization of different visual and artistic experiences, practices and identities. Through the collaboration and overlapping of painting and multimedia, photography and video, graphics, installations, social media, etc., and various public interventions, he creates spaces of "open connections". Thus, through her projects, and sometimes in collaboration with her colleagues (Mezak, Rogič and others), she realizes several notable multimedia works that question, connect and juxtapose our "local", domestic artistic practices and social situations/positions in relation to the most representative international, and especially European, artistic and widely recognizable moments. Thus, for example, by connecting Bukovac's "Gundulić's Dream", Iveković's "The Arrival of the Croats" with Gericault's "The Raft of Medusa", El Greco's "The Funeral of Count Orgaz" and especially with Rembrandt's "The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Tulp" through a notable series of multimedia works (realized in collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb, the Art Pavilion in Zagreb and other gallery or public spaces), he speaks about new spaces and opens them up to contemporary readings of common European-Croatian cultural spaces.

In the group of subjects that I teach under the common title "Drawing the Nude" (intended for students from different fields), we approach the motif or theme and phenomenon of the human body through different approaches, which is different for OZAFIN students compared to those intended for students of painting, sculpture and graphics in the 4th year. I also teach the elective course "Creative Derivatives".
