Daniel Šuljić is an internationally award-winning animated film director and musician. Born in Zagreb, in 1997 he graduated in painting from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna in the class of C. L. Attersee, with the animated film "Sun, Salt and Sea". His films (Cake, Evening Star, Transparency, Film with a Girl and others) have been screened at hundreds of festivals around the world. He is a member of numerous expert juries and has held several retrospectives (ITFS Stuttgart, Monstra Lisbon, Anifilm Trebon, Krok St. Petersburg and others) and has held numerous lectures and curated various thematic programs. In addition to films, he is involved in music as a DJ, produces in the electronic project Roppongi Red and plays guitar in Stampede. From 2005 to 2008, he taught classical animation at the Institute of Media Design at the University of Art and Design in Linz, and in 2006 he was awarded the title of visiting professor at the College of Animation at Jilin University in Changchun, China. Since 2018, he has been a professor at the Department of Animated Film and New Media at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, where he has been the head since 2024. 2010 – 2012 he was an advisor for animated film at the Croatian Audiovisual Centre. 2013 – 2017 he was a member of the Cultural Council for Film of the City of Zagreb. 2017 – 2019 he was the ambassador for Croatia of the European Animation Awards Emile Awards, where he has been a member of the interim board of directors since 2023. Since 2023, he has been a member of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Oscars). In 2011, he was the artistic director of the World Festival of Animated Film Animafest Zagreb.
