izv. prof. art. Barbara Horvat Kavazović

She was born in Zagreb in 1985. In 2004, she enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts, the study of conservation and restoration of works of art, majoring in painting, where she graduated with a graduate thesis on the topic of easel paintings, historical-artistic research and methods of doubling. Since 2010, she has been working at the Department of Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art (OKIRU) as a teaching associate - assistant. In 2018, she acquired the title of assistant professor, and from 2024 the title of associate professor. She is the holder and lecturer of three professional courses in the study of conservation and restoration of works of art. She is the author of the teaching text entitled "Cleaning easel paintings Part 1" in the field of conservation and restoration of easel paintings, and co-author of the teaching manual "Instructions for the preparation of a seminar paper", which are available on the ALU website. She is a mentor and co-mentor of graduate theses. In the profession, she has worked as an associate on the protection programs of the Ministry of Culture, the head of conservation and restoration work on paintings from private ownership, and as a leader and associate on artistic research projects. She is the author and co-author of several professional texts and reviews, a participant in professional conferences through oral presentations and posters, a participant in professional workshops as a participant, and as an organizer and leader. Since 2012, she has been a regular member of the Croatian Conservation Society. From 2019 to 2021, she worked as the deputy head of the Department of Restoration at the Academy of Fine Arts, and from 2022 to 2024 she was the head of the Department of Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art. She currently serves as the deputy head of the OKIRU.

Conservation and restoration processes on easel paintings, cleaning processes and modern approaches to painting cleaning, modern methods of duplicating paintings on canvas and alternatives.

Introduction to conservation and restoration of easel paintings, documentation, causes of deterioration and surface and structural changes, overview of interventions following the stratigraphy of the painting, primary introduction to materials and methods through simulations, conservation and restoration interventions on objects, guided by ethical principles of the profession.
