Group exhibition

With the exhibition "Towards the Salon", we will present young artists, students of the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of Zagreb, and their recent works, set in the context of the recently opened 54th Zagreb Salon: "Without Anesthesia".

MORE ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

The proposal for the curatorial concept of the 54th Zagreb Salon is based on several assumptions and interests, which it tries to gather within the framework of an exhibition that is formed as an existing and recognizable given format of the salon, with the intention of presenting recent artistic production and considering the contexts within which artists operate. Considering the background and perspectives of the Zagreb Salon, the curatorial proposal is formed kaleidoscopically, as a reflection of multiple perspectives and positions" ("Without Anesthesia", Branka Benčić and Tevž Logar).

With the same goal of a kaleidoscopic presentation of students' production, the audience is presented with works that try to approach a wide range of topics with a conceptual approach and in a layered way; visions that reflect a sense of indisputability and serene contemplation, combined with subtle details of unusual, eccentric or humorous elements. By exploring the potentials of "the stories of individuals, their past and present", the works respond directly to the environment and use everyday artistic experiences as a starting point, thus opening up the possibility for critical reflection on society and for dialogue from different artistic and social positions.

BIOGRAPHIES OF THE AUTHOR

Lucija Žuti was born in 1994 in Varaždin. She enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of Zagreb in 2014, where she completed the fourth year of her undergraduate study of graphic arts cum laude, in the class of red.prof.art. Mirjana Vodopija. She is currently a first-year graduate student of graphic arts, also under the mentorship of red.prof.art. Mirjana Vodopija.

She has participated in several group exhibitions and workshops, and has exhibited in two solo exhibitions and performed one performance: "Shields of Prejudice", Lauba, Zagreb, 2017; "Drawing the Line", VN Gallery, Zagreb, 2018; "Artist's Way of the Cross", 2018

She is the winner of several awards: second prize for poster at the Festival of World Literature in Zagreb in 2017; winner of the 14. Erste scholarship in 2018; and the Rector's Award for team scientific and artistic work "Project Sketch" in 2018.

Ivana Stećuk was born in 1997 in Zagreb, where she graduated from the Department of Graphic Arts at the School of Applied Arts and Design in Zagreb. She enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of Zagreb in 2016, where she is currently attending the third year of undergraduate studies in graphics in the class of red.prof.art. Mirjana Vodopija.

She has participated in about fifteen group exhibitions and projects, of which Watercolors on Scaffolding, 2018 stand out; group exhibition "Art-kino Grič" in Zagreb, 2017; "19. Miniatures", Zagreb, 2016; Plevnik Kronowska Gallery, Celje, 2016; "Applied in the Swamp #2", Zagreb, 2015.

Valerija Djanješić was born in 1996 in Zagreb. She received her secondary education at the School of Art, Design, Graphics and Clothing in Zabok. She enrolled in the undergraduate study of fine arts at the Department of Teacher Education of the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of Zagreb in 2014. She is currently a second-year graduate student of fine arts, with the choice of sculpture as the main art subject.

Dorotea Braić was born in 1996 in Pula, where she graduated from the School of Applied Arts and Design, majoring in painting. She is a second-year graduate student of fine arts at the Department of Teacher Education of the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Zagreb, majoring in painting, in the class of red.prof.art. Damir Sokić.

Valentina Butumović is a first-year graduate student at the Department of Animated Film and New Media at the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Zagreb.

The area of interest of her creative work are phenomena at the intersection of the visible and the invisible, as well as processes and methodologies that make concepts tangible, thus transforming them into visible matter.

Sarah Toscano was born in 1997 in Besançon, France. She is a student of the Higher Institute of Fine Arts (ISBA) in Besançon as part of the MA program. She is currently studying within the Erasmus+ European student mobility program at the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Zagreb, at the Department of Animated Film and New Media.

She participated in the exhibition of student works as part of the 14th documenta in Athens in 2017, realized in collaboration with Rainer Oldendorf. In 2018, she participated in the ACT Basel Performance Festival as part of the student collective Action Building.

The exhibition at the Šira Gallery can be viewed until April 11, 2019.
