The first year of the project "Whose Museum?"

The first year of implementation of the project "Whose Museum? Audience participation in Contemporary Art Museums in postindustrial Societies" as part of the UNIC VIP Fund Project has been completed.

Project Whose Museum? Audience participation in Contemporary Art Museums in postindustrial Societies is carried out as part of the UNIC VIP Fund Project, which deals with the development of innovative educational projects by connecting European universities of cities in post-industrial transition. It is implemented in partnership with the Faculty of History, Ruhr University Bochum and Faculté de Philosophie et Lettres, History of Art & Museology Department, University of Liège.

The project deals with the relevance of contemporary art museums by exploring the relationship between art history and education and the development of innovative museum programs through the encouragement of transcultural exchange. It is implemented through the course Methodology of Teaching Fine Arts in the second year of the graduate study of Fine Arts. The project leader is doc. art. Ida Loher.

In the academic year 2025/26, joint online classes were held between students of the Academy of Fine Arts and students of the University of Liège. Students attended lectures by teachers from both faculties, presented their research and ideas, and designed workshops for the Night of Museums event in Liège (Nuit ardente des Musees).

The final part of the classes took place in Liège – the final preparation of materials and workshops at the Trinkhall Museum on May 16, 2026. The specificity of the Trinkhall Museum is that it presents extremely valuable and interesting works by artists with mental disabilities, and the interactive walk and tactile workshop dealt with the museum's permanent exhibition with a special emphasis on the work of Pascal Tassini. By exchanging student experiences and combining different approaches and prior knowledge, an event was created that was interesting for audiences of all ages.

In the academic year 2026/27, joint online classes will continue, and in the spring of 2027, students from all three universities will jointly hold a series of workshops in Zagreb and Bochum.
