Group exhibition
A group exhibition entitled "Songs for the Anthropocene #4", created as a result of the collaborative work of authors Valentina Butumović, Tin Dožić, Teuta Gatolin, Ivan Jamić, Iva Korenčić and Branimir Štivić, which began on January 23, 2020 at the Šira Gallery as part of an open studio.
FROM THE PREFACE OF THE EXHIBITION
The exhibition Poems for the Anthropocene #4 is realized through a collaborative work process inspired by the shared experience from the workshop entitled "On the Anthropocene, Geology and Materials" held at Pogon Jedinstvo (11.-16.11.2018) as part of the program "On the Inhuman" of the Department of Animated Film and New Media of the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. Workshop leader Tin Dožić and participants Valentina Butumović, Teuta Gatolin, Ivan Jamić, Iva Korenčić and Branimir Štivić produced and presented a joint installation during the six days of the workshop, and for the presentation in the Šira Gallery they continue and expand their work by bringing their own practices into the collaborative framework. The Anthropocene is a proposed geological epoch that begins with the increasing significance of human influence on the geology and ecosystem of planet Earth. This term was first mentioned by biologist Eugene F. Stoermer and chemist Paul Crutzen. In the discourse of contemporary art, the Anthropocene is mentioned through texts by authors such as Donna Haraway, Jussi Parikka, Jonathan Sterne and Timothy Morton. In the context of contemporary art, the Anthropocene is often manifested through the works of various media that deal with issues of ecology and pollution, (self-)sustainability, industrial exploitation, mining, geology and information systems. Some of the concepts that are specific to Anthropocene art are deep time, psychogeophysics (in relation to psychogeography), archaeology and materiality of media, artifacts and residues, and zombie media (...) Through working with analogue and digital media and various models of recording and displaying information (analogue-digital image/sound/light) and treating objects (ready-made, found objects) and approaches to information/object processing (recycling, reappropriation, upcycling), we consider our everyday environment and the use of objects through material-oriented practice.
In the Šira Gallery, in the period of eleven days before the public presentation, the authors will deal with the posting of joint work. The gallery window will be a mediator between the internal process of developing the work and the public space of Preradovićeva Street. Through non-hierarchical cooperation, exchange of knowledge and experience, and practical experiments, the authors will ferment ideas, think about what it means to watch over the Anthropocene, sound micro events, scrape records, think about how what is uncanny is built and how it rusts and how it decays, scan spaces and shapes, seek radical empathy and form an unstable environment as a swampy topography – that of space in constant change – that of different practices that meet in one installation – that of ecosystems in not/on/standing. The result of this process is an open outcome, and it will be presented to the audience at the "closing" of the exhibition on February 3, 2020, and it will be possible to visit it on February 4, 2020.

BIOGRAPHIES OF THE AUTHOR
Valentina Butumović (1994, born in Pula, lives in Zagreb) researches the decay and changes of fluid materials, and the unstable but vibrant spaces of processuality through installations, art books, objects and photographs. She completed her undergraduate studies in Animated Film and New Media at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, and is a second-year graduate student of New Media. During her studies, she stayed in Lithuania, where she studied photography and intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vilnius. She participated in several group exhibitions in Zagreb, Pula and Osijek, and independently exhibited a project called 'Meteorology of the Body' in Lauba, Zagreb (2019). For her work 'B BL(2) 15S II' she was awarded the 'Golden Watermelon' award at the Media Mediterranea Festival in Pula (2019). Her film 'B BL(2) 15S' was screened at the Rijeka International Student Film Festival (2015).

Tin Dožić (Rijeka, 1989) graduated in psychology from the Croatian Studies at the University of Zagreb (2016) and from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb (2016). In his practice, he starts from the medium of sound, and deals with field recording, radio, experimental music and multimedia installations. His work is based on the exploration of media through the practice of making one's own electronic instruments, appropriation of obsolete technologies and recycling. Topics of interest are materiality, (dark) ecology, DIY culture, Anthropocene and geology, the meeting of science and art, sleep and dreams. He has exhibited and performed on various platforms in Croatia and abroad, independently and in collaborative projects. The work 'Songs for the Anthropocene' won the 'Golden Watermelon' award at the Media Mediterranea Festival in Pula (2018). Dožić is a finalist of the Radoslav Putar Award (2019) and a participant of the WHW Academy 2019/2020.

Teuta Gatolin deals with the medium of space, performance, object and text, exploring chaos and what is close to them. She is currently a graduate student of New Media at the Academy of Fine Arts, where she also completed her undergraduate studies. She has exhibited in group and solo exhibitions at the Greta Gallery, Prozori, GMK, Vladimir Nazor and Pogon Jedinstvo, and collaborates on intermedia projects such as the Platform for Experiment or TASK. She has participated in the festivals Improspections, Projekt Ilica, Platforma HR, Night of Performances and the Week of Contemporary Dance. She collaborates with Sonja Pregrad on the intermedia play "DOM" and its variations. As a writer, she has published stories and poetry for the anthologies of the publishing houses Sandorf, Jesenski&Turk and others.

Ivan Jamić studied film and video at the Academy of Arts in Split. He is currently a graduate student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, majoring in New Media. He has exhibited his works at NMG Praktica Split (Frequencies in Time – 2015; Invisible Traces of a History – 2017), the Multimedia Cultural Center in Split (Traffic Dilation – 2017; final thesis from the Film and Video Studies – 2018) and the Museum of Fine Arts in Split (Traffic Dilation – 2017).
Iva Korenčić studied contemporary dance at SEAD in Salzburg and cinematography at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb. She is currently a graduate student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, majoring in New Media. In her artistic practice, she explores the themes of intimate states, psychology, individual, collective and cellular memory reflected in the materiality of traces with a focus on processuality, the transformational capacities of media and the development of new methodologies. Using various media such as sculpture, drawing, text, photography and video, she constructs spatial installations exploring the concept of choreography of attention.
She also collaborates as an author, choreographer, director, cinematographer, photographer and editor on a number of dance and performance projects. In 2015, she realized her first independent multimedia project We talk simple language (Platforma.hr). She has exhibited at group and solo exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Prozori Gallery, GMK, Lauba, ULUPUH Gallery, MUO, Pogon Jedinstvo, Nova Gallery, SC Gallery and many others. Her photographic work has been awarded and published in various Croatian and foreign magazines and books. She is also engaged in pedagogical work.

Branimir Štivić is a graduate student of New Media at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. He graduated in Information and Software Engineering from the Faculty of Organization and Informatics in Varaždin (2015). He has been in the world of music for more than 15 years, and has been intensively involved in the production and design of sound for the last 5 years. He has done sound for a number of short films, dance performances, performances and installations. In his artistic work, he deals with sound and light installations, performance, cybernetics, programmed art, neural networks, artificial intelligence, video synthesis and sound for contemporary dance. He uses a multidisciplinary approach as a tool for researching perception, probabilistics, pseudo-randomness, process music, sound, image, kinetics and synthesis with the help of machine learning. His recent works touch on the themes of systematicism, animism, the vitality of objects and matter in the age of the technosphere and the Anthropocene. He has exhibited at group exhibitions at the Prozori Gallery, Lauba, Pogon Jedinstvo, Kazamat, NMG@Praktika, and has performed at the Monoplay and Barutana contemporary dance festivals, as well as the ZEZ and SineLinea experimental music festivals.

The exhibition at the Šira Gallery can be viewed during the Gallery's working hours (Mon-Fri: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., Saturdays: 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.) until February 4, 2020.
