LARA KRAŠ / IS THERE ANYONE?

FROM THE PREFACE OF THE EXHIBITION
"The starting point of the exhibition is one's own encounters with abandoned stone chapels and houses scattered across rural landscapes; along old paths in mountainous areas or hidden within forests. In these spaces, the motifs of refuge and emptiness are intertwined. The house acts as proof of presence, but at the same time this thought evokes discomfort; what if we are alone, and what if we are not? What is missing may not be absent. Deprived of their original function, these structures paradoxically retain or even intensify the sense of presence. It is in this distance from use that space ceases to be determined by purpose and becomes open to the projection of memory, imagination and experience. The sacred is not defined through religious structures, but through the intensity of experience, solitude and relationship to the inner space.
The question "Is there anyone?" establishes a relationship between presence and absence. It opens up a space of uncertainty between the need for the other and metaphorically questions the existence of a higher power."

FROM THE CURRICULUM VITAE
Lara Kraš was born in 2001 in Zagreb, where she is currently a graduate student of sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Zagreb. During her education, she participates in international programs, including Erasmus+ mobility in Kaunas (2020) and in a student exchange at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (2024). She participated in public interventions City at Second Sight and realized two public sculptures in the project Bright Stripes (2023, 2025), the summer schools Ideal Place: Meeting Points (2022) and Places of Transformation (2024), and the sculpture workshop Factory Earth (Vinkovci, 2025). She has exhibited at numerous group exhibitions in Croatia such as VGA04 and VGA05, Triennial of Croatian Medal Making and Small Plastics 2025, They Are Here 2026. She also had a solo exhibition Intimacy at 4 °C (2024) organized by the KVADAR collective. She is the winner of the Rector's Award for the academic year 2021/2022.
