Invitation to an art workshop
Preparation of the painting canvas: from tensioning to preparation
Graduate students of the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of Zagreb are invited to apply for participation in a professional art workshop dedicated to the traditional procedures of preparing painting bases.
The workshop is focused on acquiring practical knowledge and skills necessary for the independent production of a quality painting base. Participants will be introduced to the process of preparing the subframe, proper stretching of the canvas and the preparation, cooking and application of animal strainer in the process of insulation and preparation of the canvas.
Special emphasis will be placed on the different ways of applying the blank – in the warm-liquid and cold-gelled state – as well as on the finishing of the canvas by applying a painting base (gesso).
Through demonstrations and practical work, participants will gain knowledge about the properties of materials, the technological sequence of individual procedures and their importance for the quality and durability of the painting base.
The workshop is intended for students of graduate studies in Fine Arts and other interested study orientations of the Academy of Fine Arts. The number of participants is limited to 5.
