Group exhibition
A group exhibition entitled "Graphic Folder Dry Aquatint" will present a student graphic folder that combines 20 graphic sheets made in the innovative technique of intaglio printing – dry aquatint.
The graphic folder was created as a result of the work of students of the Academy of Arts and Culture of the J.J. Strossmayer University of Osijek, the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of Zagreb and the Academy of Arts of the University of Split at the workshops of dry aquatint, an innovative technique of intaglio printing, under the mentorship of izv.prof.art. Stanislav Marijanović, published by the Student Union of the J.J. Strossmayer University of Osijek.
FROM THE PREFACE OF THE EXHIBITION
"The backbone of the graphic folder Dry Aquatint, in which the works of twenty students of three academies are represented, is the innovative intaglio printing technique of the same name, so it is necessary to present it.
So, at the end of the eighties, my experiments in intaglio printing resulted in some interesting and seemingly ephemeral traces, but their long-term and careful articulation, in search of a formula that would best express me, led to what we can now call the dry aquatint technique. It differs from traditional aquatint in that the matrix, the printing form, is creatively shaped before the rosin powder is fixed by melting – it uses free, moving powder. This is the basic, common principle of a series of mechanical or chemical processes that initiate or induce the structuring of rosin on the surface of the plate. From the moment the powder is arranged in the desired way, either by (seemingly) simple drawing on the powdered plate, or by more complex processes using water, stencils, solvents..., a process identical to traditional aquatint follows – fixing the powder and etching. In dry aquatint, it is possible to achieve a rich range of transitions on the print from white, through a number of shades of gray, to a depth that corresponds to the black of traditional aquatint, to a rich range of transitions from white, through a number of shades of gray, to black. Different procedures within dry aquatint offer a wide and diverse range of expressive possibilities that are easily multiplied by interconnection." (…)
