A WORD FROM THE AUTHOR
"This series of works deals with the phenomenon of dualism, both in phenomena and people in life, as well as in artistic work, i.e. in monochrome. In my works, I try to create an authentic sense of duality (light – darkness, depth – flatness, stillness – movement...) and to confront the observer with this phenomenon in the way I experience it. The secondary task of my works is to act as a kind of catalyst for changing the behavior of the observer. I most successfully realize these goals and ideas through monochrome works that hide part of the surface with their reflections, while the other part of the painting is exponentially emphasized. In this way, the viewer is placed in the role of a seeker for 'complete', absolute content. In this way, the surface, which at first seems quite within reach of the eye, becomes an elusive and elusive phenomenon, forcing the seeker to finally give up his plan and accept as a whole these opposing two elements (which can be interpreted multiple times) of opposite values.
The works I create have two key functions: they are bridges that we use to cross from one extreme to the other, and they are also places where extremes meet. They are here to point out the union of the two poles, and it is at this meeting point that they try to reconcile them.
Namely, in the elaboration of the topic of dualism, I believe that the concrete meeting place of two different phenomena is of great importance. I would go so far as to say – two different beings.
If there is light, we automatically confirm that light does not exist, that is, we confirm the existence of darkness. Where is the boundary between light and darkness, and what is the point that keeps them in the relationship they are in? “

HEAVENLY LETTERS
"Sometimes, when I replace my comfortable but cramped bed with a spacious summer lawn, it seems to me that the white tails of countless planes write secret messages of incredible cosmic significance on a huge and empty sheet of sky.
Watching the intoxicated flight of these mechanical butterflies, it occurs to me that they are piloted by people I will never meet. I can't even imagine all the ways in which the lives of these dedicated flyers differ from my ordinary life with which I am firmly tied to the ground.
Does the pilot's habit of flight force him to see the world through the eyes of an eagle even when he lands and continues his human life? Do flyers think on a cosmic scale even when they build dwarf houses out of blocks with their children?
Day after day, pilots dedicate their lives to astonishing changes of perspective. That is why they need to express what they see with their tireless air dance. Their lives are eternally plunging and climbing above endless fields and countless cities, above neon carnivals and winding snakes of highways, above unknown homes and endless currents of eternally flowing destinies of human beings who rarely raise their gaze to the heavens.
People have almost forgotten about the eternal celestial presence of the Sun and the Moon above their bowed, wrinkled foreheads... Only a few loners today look up to swallow the body of an eagle with their eyes, to absorb something of that indescribable lightness that permeates the bones of every creature that knows how to fly."

BIOGRAPHY OF THE AUTHOR
Davor Dmitrović was born in 1989 in Virovitica. After graduating from the School of Graphic Arts in Zagreb, he enrolled in the study of philosophy at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. After three years of study, in 2014, he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Zagreb, Department of Graphic Arts.
In 2017, she spent a semester at the Academy of Arts of Latvia in Riga.
After completing the undergraduate study of graphics, he enrolled in the graduate study in the class of izv.prof.art. Josip Baća. During his studies, he received praise from the Academy Council twice.
He was awarded a PhD scholarship at the China Art Academy in Hangzhou, starting in September 2019.
He has exhibited at fifteen group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad, the most important of which are: Graphics open 2 (Budapest), 2nd International Triennial of Drawing (Katowice), 4th International Triennial of Self-Portraits (Samobor, Prica Gallery), Venientes (Zagreb, Šira Gallery), Unaligned (Zagreb, Lauba), 1st International Symposium of Lithography (Lublin), Pay and Wear (Zagreb, home of the Croatian Association of Artists, winner of the award for the best work), Unaligned 2 (Zagreb, Lauba).
The exhibition is financed by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia and the City Office for Culture of the City of Zagreb.
The exhibition at the Šira Gallery can be viewed during the Gallery's working hours (Mon-Fri: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., Saturday: 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.) until June 27, 2019.
