Strategies for Freedom-Presentation of Graphic Folders

Every artist has their own strategies for how to reach art. Strategies for finding an idea, strategies for the economy of the concept, strategies for the reasonableness of performance. Each artist has their own strategies for how to reach art.
Strategies for finding an idea, strategies for the economics of the concept, strategies for reasonableness of performance.
Every work requires additional strategies; strategies for self-preservation, strategies against the loss of integrity, strategies for freedom. It is necessary to devise many strategies in order to fight for this small space of freedom in our own thoughts.
So many strategies for, sometimes, just one line on paper. Our own freedom is not immanent. Apart from external factors, it is shaped, conditioned and limited by many internal boundaries. In our artistic attitude, these boundaries are perhaps even stronger than in ordinary everyday life, in which they are conditioned by social norms or our personal patterns of behavior. In art, things become more complicated. We set the rules ourselves, just as we make the decision not to follow them. A line to the left, a line to the right, it has no effect on the order in the universe. But in our art, the right position of that line is of crucial importance. We are looking for the right position of that line forever. Even when we get closer to it, we keep looking, we come up with strategies to lay the line in the right place, we come up with strategies to be free, ethical, playful, serious, debauched, strict, crazy and rational at the same time.

STRATEGIES FOR FREEDOM
Graphic map

In this graphic folder, the authors are invited to present their artistic strategies and their outcomes with minimalist gestures. They have established their strategies on graphic sheets in correlation with their previous work, either in the formal sense, building on their previously established visual content, or on a conceptual level, treating their graphic sheet as an area of possible artistic research and experiment. The outcomes of these strategies are, therefore, very different, as well as our predispositions to recognize them.

Tradition does not exist without the continuous transfer of experience to new generations. 110 years of continuity in the education of artists at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb is an immeasurable contribution to the development of the art scene of the Republic of Croatia so far, and in our meetings with our current students, we are aware of their potential for the future. The artists whose work we present in the graphic folder are representatives of the youngest generation of future teachers in artistic professions, and today they are our assistants. Their future is the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb and the development of the process of art education. Passing on the known and shaping new traditions.
