Continuing the practice of presenting the works of animation students and related media departments at prominent European academies and colleges, the World Festival of Animated Film – Animafest Zagreb, in the now traditional cooperation with the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of Zagreb, brought an exhibition of works by students and professors of the renowned Department of Digital Arts at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna to the Šira Gallery during the festival week.

The exhibition #fuckreality. Positions in Immersive Art is a group exhibition of students and professors whose curatorial concept is signed by mentors Martin Kusch and Ruth Schnell. Premiered in October 2018 at the Kunstraum Niederösterreich in Vienna, it arrived in Zagreb for a week on its tour from Austria to Cuba, where, due to its extensiveness and extremely demanding technical conditions, it presented itself exclusively for Animafest as a double exhibition – the one in the Šira Gallery and the Grič Tunnel.

It is an exhibition of specific VR and AR installations that use state-of-the-art sophisticated technology, and which, in combination with artistic performative interventions, invite the audience to active participation/immersion in the experiential process of the impact of digital technology on the perception of the body and space. By creating language outside of the existing established disciplines and focusing as much as possible on the process as an artistic product, the exhibition brings to Zagreb one of the most recent and contemporary artistic examinations of phenomena such as the transformation and disembodiment of the mediatized body, loneliness and voyeurism, the paranoia of a hyper-monitored society and the sensory deterioration of the image caused by today's technology.

The exhibition in the Šira Gallery can be viewed during the Gallery's working hours (Mon-Fri: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., Saturdays: 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.) until June 8, 2019.
